The End of the Line Documentary
On Tuesday, we will watch a documentary that explores the exploitation of fish stocks, specifically cod and tuna in the East Coast of Canada. In class we will answer a few questions after we watch the video. As a short take away question to continue thinking about your involvement in this issue, I would like for you to answer the following question in a short paragraph. Attach your paragraph to the blog so other members of our class can view your response.
“If you look at it from just a personal perspective then maybe it is a personal sacrifice , but if you look at it from the big picture you gotta take a cut in the Harvest. But you take that knowing it maybe gives you a better season 3, 4, 5 years from now. We don’t just want to catch salmon next year, we want to catch it 10, 20, 30 years from now.” – Matthew Moir
What is this symbol and why should you look for it on the fish you buy?

Speeches
While you work towards finishing the rough copy of your speeches, and begin writing the good copy, take a look at this website. On it you will find sample speeches from students your age, this is a great tool to use to inspire you and to use for comparison. As we have discussed in class make sure as you write your speech that ;
1. Your hook is engaging, spontaneous and different from anything you've heard before
2. Your body paragraphs flow nicely from one to the next,
3. You speech sounds natural and authentic, do not write a speech that consists of just information. Find ways to break it up, make it sound like a real conversation between you and your audience members.
4. Edit/ peer edit, ask a person in your household to read over and listen to you say your speech orally. Often times you will find things that can be improved upon once read aloud.
Goodluck, and can't wait to hear them. Remember they are due February 16th.

My Family
In Religion class we have been talking about the theme of family. Being that it is the year of the Family, I would like for you spend some time reflecting on the lasting relationship you have created with them. In todays class we will highlight the love you share with your own families, and to express the importance of them you will be creating a collection of family photos to share with the class.
The Assignment:
You are to collect and organize a series of pictures and paragraph responses to various questions given by your teacher. The way you organize this information is up to you, it can be done on a poster board, it can be done in a scrap book, whatever you choose make it creative.
You must include the following in your assignment;
1. Why is your family important to you (answer in a paragraph)
2. Who are the members of your family (show using a picture)
3. Describe what favourite hobbies/activities your family likes to do together (answer in a paragraph, with a picture)
4. What it means to be a sibling/daughter/son etc... (answer in a few sentences)
